101 Things I Never Learned in Architecture School

Written by an architect who believes there is so much more to understand about the real-world environment that most students will find themselves in upon graduation from an academic architecture program. During the COVID 19 pandemic Roger A Lipman began spending more time making photographs that he would turn into sketches and paintings. Architect and artist Carey Babyak has been a true collaborator in this work offering encouragement, criticism and ideas along the way. It was his idea to put the artwork into a book. This book is for those who did go to architecture school or were interested in going, to gain context on how architects work within the broader fields of real estate development and construction. The idea for the book is to juxtapose obliquely architectural life lessons against oblique architectural sketches to give a different perspective on the profession.Some of life’s most important lessons are learned not from the classroom, but from the people with whom we live and work.
